Friday the 13th

Hello All,
I know so many of you are thinking of Hana. We appreciate it so much!

After a long night and a grim day at the new UCSF hospital, Hana was taken by helicopter to Stanford Medical Center’s Lucile Packard’s Children’s Hospital last night. They were prepared for our arrival with a machine they could surgically install to bypass her lungs and heart. Fortunately, she started to do better and they didn’t need to do this.

In the morning she was doing much better and they decided to start reducing some medications to see how she handled it. The first medication they took her off of was the one that was keeping her paralyzed. Meanwhile, Paul and I and often both my parents, talked to a dozen doctor’s, a social worker who handles pediatric transplant cases, the pediatric heart transplant coordinator, some child life psychiatrists, and the VAD coordinator (in case they need to give her a heart pump until she gets a heart donor).

She woke and opened her eyes!!! We talked to her and I read her a story. Then she had to get a PICC line inserted, so we decided to go to the Stanford Shopping Center to buy clothes (I’ve been wearing the same clothes for three days).

She is such an amazing, sweet trooper! Thanks for all your thoughts and well wishes and prayers and help! I can’t believe how amazing people have been.

More to come.

  1. Lots of prayers coming your way. She’s on 2 prayer groups at ABVM, Jean Gotell’s and Janice Wolf’s, one of the ladies on the communion call list that organizes a prayer group…they are both awesome woman. My sister has a group too and she added Hana to that group. The bunco girls are praying too…ask your mom and dad about them.
Wishing you all the best and the best doctors too…sounds like you’ve got that covered! I’m so sorry this happened to your beautiful baby, but thank God for the hospital she’s in.

  11. Hana,

Though we do not know each other, I am seeing your journey bc of a mutual friend. I believe God answers the prayers from children first bc their prayers are pure, genuine and from the heart. Children’s prayers that are from “special” children get answered before all others.

When I recieved word about Hana last night my 3 year old daughter said a prayer for your sweet girl. My heart warrior had open heart surgery at 3 days old and is as it was told to us “our medical miracle”. I am sending prayer requests from fellow heart friends and angels. The mommy heart community is a very close knit one though we may never have crossed pathes.

You are in good hands both medically and spiritually. You’re doing great sweet Hana, and know you have many people praying for you.
